gray (Gy)

Radiation therapy is the treatment method for oncological medical situations through the physiological effect of ionizing rays. The gray (Gy) is a unit used in such cases to measure absorbed dosage and imparted specific energy by organic tissue. More often than not, the biological effects on an organism of such a dosage are imperceptible at the surface or felt after a relative long period of time from the initial exposure.

What the series proposes is probably the impossible – trying to transpose in photographic medium the effects of the attained dosage following a radiotherapy session. How does the patient look ”before and after” (similarly to adverts)? Which is one and which is the other?

The series consists of 5 diptychs, each formed from an image taken before the session and one taken after it, in front of the room housing the linear accelerator.
